thanx a lot sir....pls post remaining answers as well....
thanx sooooooooo much...:)

finally the answers! yiepee....
thanks a lot sir!
:)

Sir,You posted the answer for this question of Jnu 2011 as option d).
The question is
Option I :You receive Rs.112 after one year.
Option II:You receive Rs.55 after 9 months and 56 after one year.
Given that market rate of interest is 12% per annum it follows that
a)Option I is better than II
b) option II is better than I
c)Both are equally good.
d)no conclusion can be drawn from given information.
I worked it out in following manner.
In the second option we receive 55 after 9 months. We can again deposit it at given market interest 12% for remaining 3 months which gives us Rs.1.65 as interest.
So amount received at the end of year with option II is
55+1.65+56=112.65.
since 112.65>112 Option II is better.
Why you posted that d) is correct.
please reply

Thank you Sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please help question 54
first two places can be filled in 10 ways ie 00,11,22,...99
last 6 places can be filled in 9*10*10*10*10*10
So its 90,00,000 not 9,00,000 right?? :

@aditi.. leave the first two..
question is.. how many diff. tel. nos. r possible "within a given area code"........!!!

Hi Vishnu,
I understand your point. I have certain issues with the way the problem is formulated. I am not sure if the compounding is done continuously, monthly or yearly. That is why I wrote that with the available information I cannot comment on the two options.
You may go ahead and use your method to compute the answer. May be that is what they are expecting you to do.

In question 49, can't we just calculate the present discounted values for both...?
and sir, it will be really helpful if u post remaining answers too.. and for 2010 as well...
Thankyou!

@aditi..
Can u explain q.no. 79..?
I wasnt able to understand the question itself...

That;s what I did for q 49
PV of option 1 = 112/1.12 = 100
PV of option 2 55/1.12 raised to the power 9/12 + 56/1.12 = 100
So aren't they equally good ... because PVs are same.. But I now feel Vishnu's answer makes more sense

Sir, another doubt in permutations/combinations
Q74 last spot can be fixed in 2 ways 5, 0
other three spots can be filled in 8*7*6 naa?? (ie 14 and 69) so = 672??
q 79 it's like a voting procedure. Make a chart with every individuals 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice . when they person is indifferent to any person, then put the 2 indifferent choice on the same rank. you'll find that y has to be number 1 because it has the max no. of number 1 ranks and z has the max no. of no 2 ranks so answer is c

thankx a lot sir for uploading 2011 sss paper,, On Thu, May 17, 2012 at 10:36 AM, aditi5000 [via Discussion forum] <[hidden email]> wrote:

@aditi...
the pdv is.. 100.46 ..
50.48 + 50
for that 9 months wala.. we get 50.46
can u plss check ur calculations again .. may b I am wrong..
and with 100.46 ... the future value (100.46)(1.12) .. is 112.52 .. which is approx what vishnu calculated...

AJ
yes option 2 i had a calc error, I'm getting 100.55 > 100
and for option 1, we need to calc PV naa... Not Fv... We are already given FV.. So no point calculating Fv of FV naa... I don't know! PV=fv/1.12
So my answer is same as Vishnu's option 2 is better but a different technique...
Any thoughts on my second permutation combination doubt?

ya ya.. i was saying given if we compare given future value of 1st one ..with that of second that we calculated..
leave it! we are doing right..watever we are doing.. :p
and permutations wala... i do it like this..
case 1: when 0 is in the end...
then ... 9*8*7= 504 cases
case2: when 5 is in the end....
then.... 8*8*7=448 cases
504+448 = 952

Ok...Thank you ! Got it :)
